Thoughts on a Conversation with a Stranger – Part 2

In case you missed Part 1, here it is: https://copytestprove.com/thoughts-on-a-conversation-with-a-stranger-part-1/

He countered, ‘Well, at least we’re get paid. You’re here on a voluntary basis and how will you feed your family?’ (I have three growing boys here with me on the African continent.)

‘Well, when you work for God, He makes sure you have what you need to get the job done.’

‘How does it work?’

‘I don’t know. Matthew 6:9 says, ‘Your Father knows what things ye have need of BEFORE you ask.’ Sometimes the Lord supplies through miraculous means. Sometimes He supplies through other people. Sometimes He takes away the need so that we don’t ‘need’ His miraculous supply. (I explained about donated petrol, removal of subsidies (which resulted in higher price for consumers), and someone gave us a small Kia Picanto which uses a lot less fuel than the car we had. This removed the ‘need’ for more petrol.) All I know is that if I was working for a secular company, and I had another child, they would not automatically increase my salary to ease the financial strain that a new child brings.’

‘Yes, that is true. But hey, if God does so well in taking care of you, how come you’re stuck here with no food or water, with a heavy load and a long wait time with no seat?’

The story will continue tomorrow. But concerning God’s supply throughout my missionary journeys (and also my parents’, who were volunteer missionaries with 10 kids!!!), I still cannot explain how it all works. Hindsight IS 20/20, but it doesn’t seem to help with predicting how God will work in the future.

  1. Very good so far! I like how you included that “sometimes He takes away the need.” That is so important, because what we feel we “need” may not be what God will provide.
